Family Session: Sunflower Fields

Because Why Not?

If you are anywhere close to a sunflower field and they are in season-this is the question you should be asking yourself.

Why not spend a fun evening with the family soaking in that exceptional summer sunset in a field of golden sunflowers? They are only little once, and those sunflowers won’t be around all year.

I love the way that sunflowers enhance natural light, and I am so excited to share with you this sweet session with this Momma & her two littles!

Being intentional.

Maybe you have to search for just the right farm, drive 45 minutes away and convince your partner that it will be worth it.

I promise it is worth it.

Finding & capturing beauty does not always come easy. Don’t let that stop you. Whether it’s sunflowers or a beach destination, find the beauty that makes your heart happy and capture it intentionally.

My friend Anne (pictured above) is an artist and was thrilled to shoot a family session in a field of sunflowers just about an hour outside of the town she lives in. While it wasn’t always easy to herd both of her littles in the same spot, she embraced this and in turn I got the chance to accurately photograph her story of motherhood.

Making space for something different

Capturing a smile from everyone at the same time in a family photo sometimes feels like playing the lottery. While it’s important to try and score that winning ticket, it’s also important to embrace the “in-between”.

That’s why I get so excited to capture a family session- I love how these sweet girls in the picture above are displaying their personality. Making space in your session to capture something different & authentic is something that I am so committed to.

Maybe you are really on top of your game and you get family photos done every year to celebrate your growing family. You rock. Maybe it’s been a while- you hardly make time for yourself and getting photos done is a chore or not “that important” compared to everything else you have going on. That’s understandable.

Either way, you deserve to have fun getting your photos taken. When you consider an option like a sunflower field or maybe an in-home session where you really want to document your life- you are making space for something different. Something that’s fun and really represents you.

Your photos are your memories.

Make those memories count. Invest the time & money into photographs that you are proud of & that bring a smile to your face.

You deserve that.

At this sunflower session I made sure to give each little one their own individual time in front of the camera with and without their Mom.

I love showing off the connection that each family member has with their loved ones. When I pair up two family members individually it creates for authentic & unique photos and gives everyone a chance to truly * shine *.

The actual MVP.

Why are sunflower photos so beautiful? Because when you combine a pretty landscape with the authentic connection that your family brings it is MAGIC.

I love the photograph above because it truly represents my little client’s personality- the light & foliage in the back only enhance the beauty & sweetness that is already there.

The sunflower farm is not the MVP here. It’s you, being intentional and seizing the moment.
