The Beauty of Taking Your Newborn Photos at 4+ Weeks

Spokane Newborn Photographer

Why Would You Wait?

Traditionally, most newborn photographers prefer to capture their tiny clients within 10 days of birth. While I love a “fresh” newborn baby in front of my lens, I also understand that life happens. Maybe you booked the photographer late, maybe your postpartum journey has taken an unexpected turn. Life after birth is unpredictable, so I believe that newborn photographers should be as flexible with their standards as moms are with their ever-changing schedules.

What Would the Session Look Like?

I captured the following session when baby was almost two months old and it was a BLAST. There are so many benefits to waiting until this age to capture newborn photos, and I’m here to tell you that it’s never too late to hire a photographer to capture your newest addition. By waiting a few weeks, you have allowed siblings to adjust to this HUGE change in the home, Mom is feeling more “herself” again, and your family has been working to establish a new rhythm. At this point, you might feel way more comfortable inviting someone into your home, and that makes for great photos.

Your session looks incredibly similar to a traditional newborn shoot complete with individual shots of baby, baby with siblings, baby with mom, ALL the good combos. The only thing you might not see are those solo-sleepy shots because at this point, baby might have some FOMO and won’t want to be asleep. BUT, as you scroll, you will see that we still found a way to capture some precious sleeping photos. Those never get old!

Embrace It.

While waiting a few weeks isn’t always my recommendation, it’s not something to be scared of. Embrace the smiles, the movement and the way your family looks at that point in time. Your photos will look a little different, but at the end of they they are YOUR photos. And they are great.

Cheers!
